Mission
To provide expert external guidance and advice to ECU faculty in the development of major grant applications. Honoraria of $150 will be provided by this program to external reviewers of draft proposals prior to submission.
Availability
Sufficient funds are available to help about 40 faculty members obtain external reviews of their draft proposals.
Eligibility
Only financially significant (>$150,000) grant applications to sponsors that provide full F & A costs will be eligible. The PI must be an ECU faculty member.

2 maximum; the faculty member selects the external reviewers.

Process & Schedule
3-4 months prior to Proposal Due Date
Faculty member requests the service from the program administrators and provides relevant information including name, department, project title, abstract, due date, prospective sponsor and amount to be requested. If accepted by the program, s/he will be told to contact and obtain commitments from two external experts to read their proposals.
Three weeks later
Faculty member provides the names, institutions and contact information of the external reviewers to the Division’s administrator who obtains needed information for honorarium payments.
About 2 months prior to Proposal Due Date
Faculty member provides a draft proposal (preferably electronic) to the administrator who then sends them to the reviewers with appropriate institutional paperwork for honorarium payment.
About 1 month prior to Proposal Due Date
Reviewers return comments to faculty member with copies to the Division administrator with completed paperwork. Honorarium checks are then mailed.
